Better Biomes Mod 1.6.4 is a forge mod that adds a new world type, more biomes, and configuration options for vanilla biomes. The Better Biomes world type contains all the new biomes but they also generate in the standard Overworld. Each one can be turned off in the config.

Alpine: Tall, snowy mountains, ringed by low-lying woodland and filled with glaciers.

Blossom Woods: A forest of cherry blossom trees with dark trunks and pink leaves.

Bog: A wetland biome with dark, murky water.

Carr: A wetland biome with small birch shrubs and alder trees.

Desert Archipelago: A sand filled archipelago with cacti and dead bushes.

Ephemeral Lake: A shallow lake with large, sandy shores filled with dead trees and shrubs.

Fen: A flat wetland biome covered by short grass.

Fir Forest: A snowy biome filled with fir trees, some growing up to 32 blocks above the ground.

Forested Archipelago: An archipelago of forested islands.

Forested Mountains: A forest biome of sheer, high cliffs.

Low Hills: A relatively flat biome with the occasional tree. It resembles plains from 1.7.3 and earlier generation.

Mountainous Archipelago: A archipelago filled with tall mountains rising out of the sea.

Mountains: A biome that towers above the surrounding landscape, frequently touching the clouds.

Mangroves: A green, marshy biome filled with lots of water and clumps of trees.

Oak Forest: A moderately dense forest with some huge oak trees.

Pine Forest: A dense forest of tall cypress pine trees.

Pine Forest Archipelago: An archipelago biome with pine trees.

Plateau: A high, moderately flat biome with scattered oak trees and shrubs.

Prairie: A large, treeless expanse of gold-yellow grass.

Rainforest: A lush, jungle-like biome with no undergrowth and more tall trees.

Rocky Desert: A desert spotted with patches of rock.

Rocky Hills: A desolate biome filled with stone and cobblestone. The occasional emerald can be found.

Salt Lake: A large expanse of purple water (configurable in the new colour config file, for those who complain about the way Mojang did swamps).

Sandstone Canyon: A sandstone area filled with small patches of dirt and trees, and deep gorges where water used to flow.

Sandstone Ranges: A dry mountain biome inspired mainly by the Flinders Ranges of South Australia.

Savannah: An open plain containing scattered acacia trees.

Scrub: A sandy landscape dotted with large, spikey shrubs.

Shrublands: A shrub filled plain with no trees.

Snowy Plateau: Similar to the plateau biome, snowy plateaus contain fir trees and shrubs and lots of snow.

Steppe: A damp grassland biome with no plants but lots of mobs.

Tropical Archipelago: An archipelago of islands covered in jungle trees.

Tundra: A snow-covered biome filled with flowers and low undergrowth.

Wastelands: A dead area of gravel and dirt, filled with the dead trunks of trees that were unable to survive the heat.

Woodlands: A thinly forested biome filled with oak trees.

Sapling Planter: To plant a sapling, you need a sapling planter. The sapling planted is determined by the mode (metadata). Change the mode by pressing the ‘drop’ button while holding the sapling planter. The sapling planter then consumes vanilla saplings and plants the sapling shown on its face. The saplings can be crafted back into vanilla saplings if you destroy them.
